A home based business is any business where your primary (or only) office is located in your home or apartment. You don’t necessarily have to own the property, but you do need to be running your business out of the same location you live in for your business to be considered a home based business.
Most of us think of a home based business as a business where all the work is done from home. That may not necessarily be the case. Software trainers, truckers, and interior decorators are just three examples of people who may run home based businesses but have to travel to provide their services. Network marketing professionals may be traveling to do presentations, training, and research but their home is where their office is located and where their administrative activities take place.
You may already have a home based business or you may just be starting your search for home based business information. We are happy to help in any way we can. Let’s start by looking at some of the advantages of running a home based business.
The Short Commute is a big advantage. For the past 17 years, I have enjoyed a very short commute from the bedroom to the kitchen for coffee and then down the hallway to my home based business office. Long gone are the days of struggling with rush hour traffic.
Reduced Overhead is another big advantage. I don’t have to pay separate expenses for rent, utilities, internet, etc… which brings me to one of my favorite considerations:
Tax Advantages are one of the big things you want to consider as you are researching home based business information. I encourage you to reach out to your local tax professional to discover what sort of advantages may be available to you as a home based business owner.
Flexibility can be a factor. Depending on your type of business and the needs of your clients, you may be able to have more flexibility with your scheduling and availability.
Family Time was my biggest motivator when I first got started. I didn’t want to work all day and then come hear about what my kids had been doing. I wanted to be actively involved in their lives. These days, they are all grown up and moved out. And I am just used to spending time the way I want to rather than doing what a boss tells me to do with my day.
