Online credibility goes a long way toward creating online marketing success for any business. In fact, building your online credibility is a step you absolutely must not overlook if you want to build your business online. What do I mean by online credibility?
Think of it like this: Who are you? How do people know? Your potential prospects are going to ask those questions before they decide to interact with you or do any business? When you think about it, you do the same thing. You see an ad and your first thought is “who is this person?”.
Another way to think of online credibility is building your online reputation. A lot of us miss the mark on this one. Sure, we open up a social media profile. But then we may just post pictures of puppies, cute sayings, or even worse … we whine and complain a lot. If you have a social media account, such as Facebook, Twitter, give some thought to the content you are sharing.
Are you reinforcing your business message? Personally, I have a personal Facebook page and a business Facebook page. My personal page will always have information about me. I will post about music, family, fun projects, stuff I enjoy. I will even share some business tips along the way. My business page is all business all the time.
One of the questions your prospects is always asking is, “Is this the kind of person I want to work with?”.
Your online credibility goes a long way toward helping them say “yes” or “no”.
Another great step you can take toward helping build your online credibility is by participating in various discussion groups, blogs, etc… The key word here is “participate”. Just posting ads is a great way to build a reputation as “one of those people”. Instead, contribute to the conversation. If you have some relevant helpful advice, share it. Where appropriate/allowed, add your own link. This can be as part of your profile signature in discussion groups or added at the end of your contribution in blog posts.

As a result, you will begin to establish yourself as a reputable professional and build some link popularity. This will ultimately help with Search Engine Optimization. The more you do it, the more people will become familiar with your name. People like to do business with people they know, like, and trust. Help them get to know you. Help them see why they should like you. As they begin to trust you, they become more likely to do business with you.
