It’s no secret that I’ve been a home based business operator for 15 years. Most folks know that about me by now. Today, I had quite a few conversations with prospects, new business partners, and business partners who have been with me for a while and I kept hearing people talk about the reason they don’t get started is that they don’t have the money.
I don’t want this to sound rude but I’m pretty sure it’s going to offend at least a few readers when I say: Lack of money is the very reason you absolutely need to get started right away!
Let’s get real for just a minute. Most of us have been working the “regular job” scene for a good while now and when you find yourself in a position that a few hundred dollars to start a real business is “too much”, it’s time to reconsider how your time is being spent! And I’m not criticizing anyone when I say that!
I started my first business in the year 2000. I had about $300 in the bank and I was married with 5 small children to feed! Believe me, when I looked at that bank statement, I didn’t see that $300 as the reason I couldn’t do it. I saw that $300 as the very reason I absolutely HAD to do something!
These days, I have people tell me things like:
“Well, it’s easy for you. You have the time to do these things.”. When I first got started, I was working multiple part-time jobs and would often work through the night so that I would spend 2-3 days at a time with no sleep, at all! Why? I knew I had to do something or my life was never going to improve!
“You don’t know what it’s like. I have a part-time job and a baby.”. When I first got started, I had multiple jobs, a wife, and 5 kids to feed!
“It’s easy for you. You know how to do this stuff.”. When I first got started, I had NO CLUE how to do all this stuff! I simply had to learn and I made up my mind that I would learn, no matter what it took!
“You have it easy. You have your own lists of people to talk to.”. When I first got started, my list had exactly 0 people in it. I started with the first one, just like everyone else does.
The bottom like for me was simply this: I knew that if I didn’t start doing something in a dramatically different way, my life wasn’t going to change. I was tired of pacing the floor at 3am, wondering if I was going to have electricity in the morning. I was tired of walking out to my driveway and seeing skid marks where my car used to be. The repo man had come while I was asleep. I was tired of stressing out over whether or not my rent was going to get paid.
And when I got tired enough of the same old junk happening, I began learning and doing things in a different way. Sometimes, the things I tried worked very well. Other times, things I tried failed miserably.

Lack of money is the reason I’m going to work a home based business. The 9-5 job market for me is making someone else rich has lost it’s luster for me. Working on my own time and making money for my family is more appealing at this point in my life. So show me the money !!
