There are, of course, . In my own experience, my big motivation to starting a home based business with that I wanted to be more available to my kids. I couldn’t stand the idea that I was missing out on so many firsts, such as first steps, first words, first foods, first walks. I wanted to look back on my life and know that I was a father that was there for his kids instead of always working on someone else’s goals and missing my own kids’ lives.
As the years have gone by, the kids have grown, and I’m not only happy to have been there with my kids, but there are many more reasons I am aware of that made starting a home based business online the right move for me.
A big factor was freedom to set my schedule. A big misconception is that running a home based business isn’t the same as working. Many of my friends and family would often say something like, “Now that you’re not working, we should … ” or “Well, you’re not really working any more, so you have time for … “. Let’s be clear. I probably work harder for myself than I ever did for someone else. I’m working. But, again, I’m working for MY goals and ambitions and to build a legacy for my own children. What I love is the option to have a flexible schedule. When the boys had a basketball tournament, or my daughter had a volleyball game, I had the option to do the work before or after those games. Sometimes, that might mean staying up later or waking up earlier but that was a choice I was all too happy to have available to me.
Another big factor is the income, itself. Whether your goal is to replace your job, supplement job income, or create wealth, making money with a home based business gives the option to build as big or as small as you are prepared to work for. Not many jobs out there give you that option.
I’m not even sure how to categorize this next reason to start a home based business online but this is something that happened recently. My girlfriend is an amazingly talented singer. She is also building a home based business online. Recently, after a gig in Houston, she got caught in a flood during a record breaking storm. I wasn’t able to get to her but after a few hours she found her way to a hotel and was able to stay safe. When I was able to get to her the next day, we talked about the flood, how she got trapped, the kindness of people she met, and the challenges she faced. And then she said to me, “Oh … and I made a sale online last night!”.
How amazing is it that, even when she was facing the challenge of flooding in Houston, her home based online business was continuing to work for her?
That may be one of the most exciting things for me about running a home based business online. I absolutely love the fact that, no matter what I am doing, the systems I have in place are allowing my home based online business (and my income) to keep working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
